Newsies is a high-energy, ensemble-driven musical that tells the story of a group of young newspaper sellers in turn-of-the-century New York City. As they navigate the challenges of their work and the pressures of the city around them, the newsies discover the power of standing together, speaking out, and taking action in the face of injustice. The show explores themes of ethical responsibility, solidarity, and the courage it takes to fight for what is right. Newsies invites both performers and audiences to experience a story of resilience, hope, and the impact that collective action can have on a community.
Newsies demonstrates how a narrative can create a ripple through the lessons it leaves behind. We chose Newsies because it presents a layered narrative about ethical responsibility, power, and the consequences of collective action. Beneath its high energy and spectacle, the show interrogates how injustice is normalized, how authority is challenged, and how individual choices contribute to much larger social outcomes. Newsies invites both performers and audiences to examine the cost of silence, the complexity of standing up for what is right, and how meaningful change is built through shared resolve. By engaging with these ideas, the production provides an opportunity for reflection, discussion, and learning, both on and off stage.
